Laserwriter LS

"I have a Personal Laserwriter LS; am getting 'fuser assembly malfunction' error. Does anyone have experience w/this, know the likelihood that I need to replace the entire fuser assembly, or how I can find out? Also, is there a place to get a used assembly, and is it difficult to make the repair myself? Stores charge $200 parts and labor for the replacement, and this printer's not worth that investment."

(From: Frank Reid (reid@indiana.edu).)

The fuser lamp often fails in that model. The replacement is Apple part number 890-0427. I think it costs roughly $25.
