Photos of Coherent Optically Pumped Semiconductor Lasers

[Only about 3 people per decade visit the Laser Equipment Gallery ;-), the existing format is archaic, and I am lazy. So going forward, we will use the Windows App "Web Album Generator" for most of the collections.]

Note: Most links open in a single new tab or window depending on your browser's settings.

Coherent Genesis 532-1000-S-MX-OPSL Green DPSS Laser

Here are photos of a typical Genesis laser head. This is a Web Album.

The mechanical design is rather surprising with the cavity split between the pump diode, beam correction, ahd OPS chip with HR mirror on the bottom of the case with the rest of the cavity on the upper deck. All alignment is via melting solder securing various parts, and moving the upper deck slightly within the limits of the screw holes. What a kludge. ;-)

Having said that, it is apparently possible to swap the pump diode without major realignment - it just unscrews.

This is totally unlike the Coherent Sapphire (the Genesis's smaller cousin) where everything secured to a single cermaic baseplate.
